Our History
Walmer’s church is believed to have been founded around 1750 by Peter Walmer, a German immigrant who arrived in America in 1742 at the age of 21. A few years after arriving he acquired over 200 acres of Pennsylvania land from the sons of William Penn, Thomas and Richard. It is believed that Peter, having sadly missed church services and wanting to provide his family proper religious training, determined with his family to build a church. The log structure he built lasted for about 100 years until it burned down in the 1800’s The present church building was erected on the same land, across the road from the original log structure.Peter Walmer started something that has lasted over 250 years and penetrated the region and beyond. There are descendants and relatives of Peter Walmer that are present-day members of this local church body. Other descendants have spread far and wide, spreading the Good News and their desire for spiritual truth.
